Get Shaved

A year ago in the summer, I found a little trendy shaved ice spot in Torrance and never got a chance to try it. Today, after a swim with my son, we decided to give it a try.

Get Shaved, located at 1790 W. Carson St. Unit B, Torrance CA is a little dessert place next to Ralphs. The colorfully decorated space speaks “cute” all over.  You head to the counter to order and you’ll find 4 steps for ordering.

Step 1: choose your size (UFO, Small, Medium, Large)

Step 2: choose your goodies (Ice Cream Flavors- Vanilla, Chocolate, Kona Coffee, Macadamia Nut, Mint Chip, Coconut Pineapple, Cookies N Cream, Flavor of the Month- Azuki Beans & Mocha Balls)

Step 3: choose up to 3 flavors (Banana, Blue Bubblegum, Blue Hawaii, Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Coconut, Cotton Candy, Grape, Green Apple, Guava, Hawaiian Punch, Lemon, Li Hing Mui, Lilikoi, Mango, Melona,  Orange Creamsicle, Peach, Pineapple, Pink Lemonade, POG, Red Velvet, Root Beer, Strawberry, Tigers Blood, Watermelon, Sugar-free (varies)

Step 4: choose your toppings (1st topping free)

(Sweetened Condense Milk, Li Hing Mui Powder, Sour Spray, Pico de Gallo Powder, Caramel, Marshmallow)

THEN… if you can’t make up your mind (like me) you can just choose one of their combos! So today we tried a few and here are our REVIEWS of these combos

#1 Rockin’ Rainbow– Cherry, Blue Raspberry and Pineapple Shave Ice + a scoop of Mint Chip Ice Cream

  •  YUMmy brother & his wife got this one and LOVED IT. Mint Chip ice cream seems weird to be with the other flavors, but it WORKED. What do you know. They loved the Pineapple flavor, so next time will probably stick with having Pineapple flavor

#4 Monkey Brains– Strawberry and Banana Shave Ice with Sweetened Condensed Milk + scoop of coconut pineapple ice cream

  • EHI ordered this one for my son, thinking he must like the idea that it’s called Monkey Brains, but he didn’t like it. It tasted fine to me! It was a little on the sweet side without a really distinguish strawberry & banana flavor
  • (Monkey Brains was recommended by the cashier as the most popular!)

#7 Island Breeze– Mango, Coconut and Guava Shave Ice

  • EHI ordered this one for myself and I didn’t like it and would not recommend it. It didn’t taste like much and I tasted no mango flavor, it was just a mesh of sweet stuff.

Portions are HUGE everyone. Ordering the UFO is good enough. The small size is good to share with someone else.

MY SUGGESTION– order the flavored ice you like and go with any of the ice cream. The combos seem to be too sweet for me. For those who like sweets, perhaps it’s not so bad for you! This is a family friendly little place for a cold summer treat. Price for shaved ice and a scoop of ice cream is under 5 bucks for most size portions. It’s definitely worth stopping by to check it out, but not my TOP shaved ice place in LA.
