After having sushi at Gatten Sushi a week ago, I find myself always thinking about the sushi there. Thoughts of the lobster hand roll, seared salmon rolls, seared albacore roll and all the other styles of sushi can easily make my mouth water. Yes everyone, it’s that good!

I love new restaurants because they always have wonderful specials. Everyday of the week, there is a special type of roll. We went on wednesday and for that day, the special is $1.50 lobster hand roll. SUPER YUMMY. All the other rolls are really good too. Continue reading »

Girls, time to dress up and head over to Queen’s Bakery for tea time! Located in Costa Mesa, CA, is a brand new bakery where you can enjoy an afternoon tea with choice of salads, sandwiches and desserts. The little bakery has a lovely presentation with modern decor and fancy furniture.

My cousin and I visited the bakery because we had a “Tea for Two” coupon purchased through Travelzoo that included tea with scone, salad and a platter of sample sandwiches and dessert.  We tried two of the teas, I tried a herbal tea called “Berry Faire” and my cousin tried a green tea called “Cherry Rose”. We liked both the teas. The salad and the sampler platter were okay (not great). Continue reading »

Scardinos- Best Italian Food in Torrance, CA

Posted on

entranceMy husband’s rule of thumb for restaurants is that it not only has to have good food, they must have quality of service. Scardinos a little family owned restaurant on Torrance Blvd. is our go to restaurant for all special occasions. Not only do we LOVE their food, but we love this family owned business because they serve with integrity. The cute little italian restaurant is small but that’s what I like about it because it’s intimate. When my husband and I eat there, i feel like are in a close and warm environment. The waiters are all so friendly and the service is always excellent.

The food at Scardino’s are always made to order. We are served with the most fresh ingredients and amazing tasting cheese on every plate. It never feels too heavy when you eat the meal and it leaves you always wanting more.

A year ago in the summer, I found a little trendy shaved ice spot in Torrance and never got a chance to try it. Today, after a swim with my son, we decided to give it a try.

Get Shaved, located at 1790 W. Carson St. Unit B, Torrance CA is a little dessert place next to Ralphs. The colorfully decorated space speaks “cute” all over.  You head to the counter to order and you’ll find 4 steps for ordering.

Want to be a FREEBIRDS FANATIC?

Posted on

first-25My cousin Carol asked me, “Want to camp out in front of Freebirds World Burrito overnight to win 1 year of burrito?”

I said, “YES! OF COURSE”

Before the camp out, Carol picked me up and drove me to the Freebirds near USC which marks the first time I’ve ever tasted a Freebird burrito. Knowing that the ingredients were grass fed beef, all natural chicken, fresh produce and ingredients made fresh every morning, I felt the LOVE behind the burrito already.

= HAPPY FACE! 🙂

I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I sure have a soft spot for yogurt. I don’t like any of the fancy flavors, but just want to plain-o Original Tart Flavor Yogurt topped with my favorite fresh fruits and nuts. Something about it being yogurt that makes me feel like it’s such a healthy treat.

Ladies night out – Sushi & movies

Happy hour sushi rolls for $6.99, I’m there! A few ladies and I decided to take a break from life and being mommies to relax over sake & sushi and head for a movie in the local AMC Rolling Hills 20 down the street.

On a budget mom still needs to have a good time and what better than to get a bite, catch up and some no interruption movie time. Some of us can’t even remember the last time we were able to enjoy a movie at the theaters after having children. But we all need a “Time Out”, a time to refresh and relax.

Quality fish for a good price

Bluesalt Fish Grill
Location: 2515 Artesia Blvd, Redondo Beach Ca 90278

store-hours-and-menu

Tucked in a little plaza in Redondo Beach is a little restaurant called Bluesalt Fish Grill. Much like it’s competitor, California Fish Grill, their main entrée is grilled fish, but for Bluesalt fish Grill, “their food is little more gourmet,” as my cousin would say.  I absolutely agreed with her opinion. The wine list, the special seasoning for the fish and side dishes and even the free appetizer speaks fancy to me. Although the restaurant setting is very casual, the quality of food is definitely a notch better than California Fish Grill.

Making Rice Porridge

米粥 Rice Porridge

One of the occasions for making rice porridge, or “juk” in Chinese, is when someone is sick and would like a comfort food. In American culture we make chicken noodle soup as a comfort food, likewise rice porridge is a warm soup with soften rice it in that warms the belly. The styles of preparation vary depending on what flavor you would like it in the soup. The most common is probably using bits of chicken to add flavor. However, I’ve seen other flavors such as, seafood, beef, frog or special cow intestines used for the rice porridge.

Da Maat – Authentic Korean Food Not In K-Town?

Da-Maat-Restaurant

Location: 2814 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance CA
Hours: Mon-Sat 10am – 9:30pm; Sun 10am – 9:00pm

I LOVE Korean food and after seeing the 5 star rating for Da Maat on yelp, we decided to try it out. You walk in and the dimly lit restaurant is clean and soaked with the aroma of delicious Korean spices. One wall of the restaurant is decorated with a wall full of clay bowls prompting you to order a big bowl of Korean noodle soup. On the opposite side of the room, the walls are remiscent of old times Korean country-side.
